Houston, get ready! The Society for the Performing Arts (SPA) proudly presents one of the most critically acclaimed musicals to ever hit Broadway – FELA!, three-time Tony Award-Winner for Best Costumes, Choreography and Sound. Now can you see why we’re excited?

Produced by Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter, Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith, FELA! is the true story of the legendary Nigerian musician Fela Kuti, whose soulful Afrobeat rhythms (a blend of jazz, funk and African rhythm and harmonies) ignited a generation. Inspired by his mother, a civil rights champion, he defied a corrupt military government and devoted his life and music to the struggle for freedom. This triumphant tale of courage, passion and love features Fela Kuti’s captivating music and the visionary direction and choreography of SPA favorite Bill T. Jones.
