We’re thrilled to welcome our long time friend, Selven O’Keef Jarmon back to Houston to tell us about KWANDA, the sustainable community development fashion project he’s been working on in South Africa. Please join us on Friday, February 26th for an artist talk, screening and pop-up shop at PEEL Gallery + music by Josh Zulu.
Here’s the scoop:
Peel Gallery and Fashion Plate are pleased to announce a sneak peek into fashion designer Selven O’Keef Jarmon and KWANDA. This new developmental and sustainable idea of making communities in South Africa feel better, look better and work better is creating much needed jobs for many talented people. The story of KWANDA is a unique one that is being fulfilled through the ideals and guidance of professional people like designer Selven O’Keef Jarmon, who left Houston five years ago on a journey enabling his abilities to design beautiful clothes for women to result in much more than a satisfied customer. His journey led him to different parts of this amazing place and landed him in Johannesburg, South Africa, where he now lives and works with newly graduated fashion students who are developing and marketing a completed clothing and accessories line called KWANDA Klothing.
This exciting event on Friday, February 26th, 6:30 p.m. – 9 p.m. at Peel Gallery, 4411 Montrose Blvd. in Houston, Texas, will include an artist talk by Selven O’Keef Jarmon, providing insight into his journey since he left Houston. Following the talk, attendees can also view a segment of the reality television show highlighting the fashion students, the KWANDA concept and communities in South Africa working on this project. A pop-up store installation will carry clothing samples and accessories from the KWANDA Collection, available for purchase. Additional highlights of the evening will include fashion models, a display of some of Selven’s personal images and DJ Josh Zulu setting the tone and tempo with great music.
KWANDA Klothing is inspired by African cultural influences. The line’s designers have Selven O’Keef Jarmon to thank for broadening their talents and connecting them with Houston. This event will be a captivating cultural experience that gives back to communities in South Africa through the creation of much needed jobs. For more information, visit www.kwanda.org.
