Good News
Juan Carlos the Montrose Rollerblade Dancer Rolls into the National Spotlight

On July 24th, MKT BAR hosted a viewing party with Juan Carlos, the Montrose Rollerblade Dancer (MRBD),
in attendance, sporting a skin-tight bedazzled bodysuit. Fans young and old lined up to take selfies and pose with our beloved rollerdancer, who happily signed autographs and gave them hugs & kisses, thanking them for their support. After the show, Juan Carlos performed a dance to the title track of James Bond's "Goldfinger," wowing the crowd with his dazzling, dramatic moves. Cake and MRBD signature mojitos were shared with friends and fans and everyone signed a WE LOVE U, THE #JUANANDONLY banner by GONZO247.

The ZC team booked the now-world-famous Montrose Rollerblade Dancer Juan Carlos last year to perform at Phoenicia's 30th Anniversary Grocery Get Down. He danced his way through the downtown market with surprise appearances during Anniversary Week, and wowed admirers with an exclusive performance at Discovery Green.

Since then, Juan Carlos auditioned for America's Got Talent, winning the hearts of America and the majority of the judges, gaining the chance to move on to the next round, and earning AGT judge Howie Mandel's praise as "The Juan and only!" Howard Stern was not so impressed, but after a crowd-pleasing 10-pose challenge, warmed up to Juan Carlos and gave him props for that.

We're anxiously awaiting the next viewing party at MKT BAR, TBA in July. Stay tuned!

Asia Society Texas Center Grand Prix Event Recap

We had a blast last Wednesday with Asia Society Texas Center (ASTC) and Filipino Young Professionals of Houston (FYP Houston) at the Grand Prix Kick-Off Party hosted at OKRA Charity Saloon. ASTC is one of the non-profit finalists competing to win 100 percent of OKRA's proceeds during the month of June 2014. Special guest Filipina-American Michele Bumgarner (who raced in this past weekend's Shell and Pennzoil Grand Prix of Houston) hung out and charmed fans while signing autographs and posing for photos. Guests ooh'd and ahh'd over Made From Scratch macarons and toasted to good conversation using limited-edition, international "Cheers" koozies provided by ASTC. Check out the CultureMap recap and FYP Houston's fan page for party pics.

Zulu Crew Gets in On Grand Prix Action

Vroom, vroom, vroom to the VIP room! Our Chieftess and friends (GONZO247, Carolyn Casey & Selven O'Keef Jarmon) jumped into the racing scene at the Shell and Pennzoil Grand Prix of Houston as VIP guests of the Houston Chronicle this past weekend. The artsy crew enjoyed behind-the-scenes access including a front row spot at the Winners Circle, Champions Club and Pit Pass access, and an unforgettable ride in the Drivers Parade with IndyCar drivers Carlos Munoz (3rd place finisher) and Tony Kanaan (13th place finisher).

Chieftess Zulu Moderates TRA's STIR Panel on Word of Mouth Marketing (WOMM)

Our Chieftess Tina was invited by the Texas Restaurant Association to moderate a panel on Word of Mouth Marketing at the Summit for Texas Independent Restaurateurs (STIR) event. Branding guru Geno Church from Brains on Fire was the keynote speaker and ZC client Jonathan Horowitz (Partner/Chief Brand Officer, Lasco Enterprises - Max's Wine Dive, Tasting Room Wine Cafe, Boiler House Texas Grill & Wine Garden, and The Black Door) and Dallas-based Kyle Noonan (CEO/Owner, Free Range Concepts, LLC - Bowl & Barrel, Mutt's Canine Cantina, and The Rustic) joined Tina for the panel discussion. The three discussed what word of mouth marketing looks like and how to be successful at it.
Coffee Grounds for Good

Our Chiefs Josh & Tina are proud to serve on the Advisory Committee for 360 Degrees Vanishing, a large-scale art installation by Selven O'Keef Jarmon that will cover the Art League Houston building with a handmade tapestry of over 350,000 beads. To help raise funds for the project, the Zulu crew worked with local coffee roaster Fontana Coffee to create "Coffee 360," a custom African coffee blend, which will be available for purchase at Art League Houston and around town in the coming weeks. To pre-order, send a message to [email protected].

Open to the public, the 360 Degrees Vanishing project kick-off event is scheduled for Friday, July 11th from 6-8 p.m. at Art League Houston.
